Role Of Activated Carbon

Controlled Adsorption For Cleaner Water.

Activated carbon adsorbs many dissolved organic compounds that cannot be captured by conventional mechanical filtration. This supports the sensory quality of the water and the stability of downstream process stages.

The right product form depends on flow rate, contact time, feed-water characteristics and the required outlet quality. Granular carbon is preferred in continuous fixed beds, while powdered carbon is effective for rapid or seasonal dosing.

Applications

Where It Is Used

Drinking Water

Final polishing and sensory-quality control in municipal and packaged treatment systems.

Process Water

Reduction of unwanted organic load and odor in production lines.

Wastewater Polishing

Final-stage removal of residual organics after biological or chemical treatment.

Suitable Form

Choosing The Product Form

01

Granular Activated Carbon

For continuous flow, long contact time and controlled pressure drop in fixed-bed filters.

02

Powdered Activated Carbon

For dosing in mixing tanks, peak contaminant loads or seasonal taste-and-odor events.

Selection Note

Particle size, bed depth and dosage should be selected from feed-water analysis and pilot-test results.

FAQs

Water Treatment FAQs

Should I use granular or powdered activated carbon for water treatment?

Use granular activated carbon (GAC) in continuous-flow filter beds and powdered activated carbon (PAC) in dosed batch processes. Contact time and existing equipment determine the choice.

Which AKARBON grade suits water treatment?

AKARBON 800 is a balanced start for general water treatment; for high colour or organic load choose AKARBON 900 or 1000. See the Technical Data Sheets.

What is the advantage of hazelnut-shell carbon in water treatment?

Low ash content (max. 3%) and chemical-free steam activation reduce the risk of leaching; the balanced micro-meso pore structure removes chlorine, odour and organic compounds effectively.
